Illocutionary Acts
Illocutionary Acts examines the linguistic concept of performative utterance as it intersects with acts of commitment and visual performance. The matrimonial promise spoken in wedding vows becomes the illocutionary act and departure point for this work: In Sickness And In Health; To Have And To Hold; For Better, For Worse. Over the course of 3 months, the individual images were created by placing photographic emulsion on the surface of the artist's body. The resulting images are the visual evidence and record of the performative utterance, or promise. 96 images.
